Organic Buckwheat Australian
We are so pleased that we have finally managed to source wait for it -… Certified Organic Buckwheat from right here in Australia & we wanted to let you know about it so that you could share in our joy and also enjoy the great taste of the inclusion of another great Aussie ingredient. Although we were naturally aware that there is Australian buckwheat available we only utilise organic buckwheat so up until recently we were using certified organic imported buckwheat in all of our products that contain buckwheat, which was OK to use and the quality was good, though wherever and whenever possible we always seek to find and use Australian produce – so you can imagine our excitement when we found a supplier with Australian certified organic buckwheat.
From now on we are pleased to say that all of our products that contain buckwheat will only contain 100% Australian certified organic buckwheat.
After conducting some research we are able to establish that although buckwheat originated in Asia it has been growing in Australia since the early 1980’s, though the majority of Australian buckwheat is exported to Japan to make soba noodles.
Out of all the buckwheat grown in Australia, only a very small percentage of buckwheat is organic buckwheat gown by organic farms.
Some may be mistaken for thinking that buckwheat is wheat or a type of wheat, due to its name buckwheat though buckwheat has absolutely no relation to wheat what so ever, others think that buckwheat is a cereal grain though it is actually a fruit seed and is related to rhubarb & sorrel.
Buckwheat is 100% Gluten Free which makes it an ideal ingredient for a large variety of all sorts of gluten free goodies.
Buckwheat is high in protein containing all 8 essential amino acids including lysine, buckwheat also contains essential fatty acids, fibre, magnesium, manganese amongst other nutrients including various b vitamins.
