Winter in Australia – Winter in the southern hemisphere

Winter is here in the southern hemisphere, though here in the Northern Rivers region of Northern NSW Australia there is not much of a need to rug up not in the day anyway as the skies are still blue and the days are a lovely 20 odd degrees Celsius, today being a lovely 22 degrees Celsius.  The nights are a bit cooler ranging between 17 – 19 degrees Celsius (ok so some of you may be saying that is not cool as you are used to far colder conditions, though those temperatures feel cool to us (in fact many of us in this region find anything below 19/20 degrees Celsius cool).

Being that it is our winter – we have highlighted 10 things that we like most about this time of year.

10 things we like most about this time of year – during Winter in Australia

1  Early morning walks on the beach with so many glorious local beaches winter in Australia can the perfect time to go to the beach as it’s not too hot

2  Early mornings lying on a sun lounger and getting some natural vitamin D from the sun – winter mornings in Australia particularly in our region are a great time to get some safe sun and some natural vitamin D

3  Sitting and listening to some of our glorious wildlife – like the large black  cockatoos who visit our region this time of year

4  Drinking mugs of organic hot chocolate on cool winter evenings –

a favourite hot chocolate recipe for homemade organic hot chocolate:

  • 1 Tablespoon of organic raw cacao powder
  • 1 teaspoon raw organic coconut syrup nectar, or you could opt for stevia (though be very careful as it has a  very strong taste so you won’t need much at all)For example if you want enough stevia to replace 1 teaspoon of sweetener then you would add 1 pinch to 1/16 teaspoon of stevia powdered extract or 2 to 4 drops of stevia liquid concentrate.  Another option to sweeten you organic hot chocolate is 1 teaspoon of pure organic maple.
  • add the above ingredients to a mug and fill your mug with boiling water
  • serve your organic hot chocolate with your choice of milk – I like freshly made raw organic or insecticide free almond milk or organic coconut milk and sometimes even a dollop of organic coconut cream & a sprinkle or raw cacao powder on top.

5  Snacking on some delicious guilt free goodies – my favourite at the moment are is our organic raw food chocolate treats namely our chocolate truffles and chocolate macadamia truffles which can be eaten on their own or enjoyed with herbal teas – organic herbal teas like organic peppermint tea or organic chamomile tea.

Tune in to our next edition of winter in Australia to see some of the other highlights of the things that we enjoy doing during winter in Australia.
